As a variation you can use Hersheys or Costco Kirkland brand dark ctoaolche chips, reduce flour by 1/8 cup and add in 1/4 cup oatmeal, you can also leave out the salt if you know these will go fast as they do in our house:)

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, softened\\
1-1/2 cups granulated sugar\\
2 eggs\\
2-3/4 cups all-purpose flour\\
2 teaspoons cream of tartar\\
1 teaspoon baking soda\\
1/4 teaspoon salt\\
1 teaspoon vanilla\\
2 tablespoons granulated sugar\\
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Heat oven to 400F. Mix thoroughly butter, granulated sugar and eggs.
Blend in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt and vanilla. Shape
dough by rounded teaspoonful into balls.\\
Make a mixture of cinnamon and sugar; roll balls in mixture.\\
Bake 8 to 10 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets. Immediately remove to
wire rack.
